Programme

The definitive programme of the 12th VLTI School of interferometry will be announced later this spring.

The first week of the school will consist of online lectures covering the following topics:

  • Interferometry basics
  • The VLTI and its subsystems
  • The VLTI/MATISSE instrument and its science cases
  • The VLTI/GRAVITY instrument and its science cases
  • The CHARA array, its instruments and results
  • Radio interferometry and ALMA
  • Principles of model-fitting of interferometry data and presentation of various tools available
  • Basics of image reconstruction and presentation of various tools available

The second week will mainly consist of onsite practical sessions on the following topics:

  • Interferometry basics
  • Preparation of observations using the JMMC tools ASPRO & SearchCal and ESO P2 interface
  • Data reduction principles, examples and problematics around interferometric calibration
  • The OIFits2 format for interferometric data: vizualization using python and OIFitsExplorer
  • Image Reconstruction using the OIMaging interface and various reconstruction algorithms
  • Basic Interferometric data and model-fitting
  • Split sessions on advanced analysis for :
    • YSO disks: continuum emission, dust and molecules mapping,  kinematics analysis from hydrogen emission line
    • Exoplanets: astrometry & spectrum extraction and characterization

Review talks on several science cases addressed by optical interferometry will also be given during the onsite week
